This source was found during my search for an image I would potentially use for the Photopea practice assignment. I ended up using the image, which I will repost below, taken on May 16, 1974 in which Asian Americans led the first protest over discriminatory labor practices at Confucius Plaza, New York. This is known as one of the first moments of community and unity in Asian American history. Although it is described as such a crucial moment in Asian American history, I do not think I was introduced to it prior to my discovery of this image. Perhaps my past Asian American Studies courses briefly mentioned it, but it was evidently not properly discussed if I had forgotten about it. With this, I wanted to utilize it as a source since it provides an in-depth analysis of the historical movement. The piece discusses the purpose of the protest and relates it to broader ideas, such as hyphenated/intersectional identities and monolithic identity of submission. I think this source will be useful as a reference of historical context.
